Heat pump, solar panels, insulation: faced with the numerous options, many owners start with the most visible equipment. However, the sequence of works matters just as much as their choice. Here is the approach we recommend.
1. Start with an assessment
Before any quote: when does the building date from, what does its energy performance certificate say, where are the losses? For a comprehensive renovation, the support of a certified energy advisor is moreover a condition of the corresponding grant procedure.
2. Treat the envelope first
Roof, facades, joinery, ground floor: reduce the needs before changing the heating. For the facades, we work with ETICS-type external thermal insulation systems, which treat thermal bridges without reducing the living space.
3. Think ventilation
A better insulated and more airtight dwelling must renew its air correctly, otherwise damp sets in. Ventilation is planned at the same time as insulation, not afterwards.
4. Choose the equipment next
A heat pump or a photovoltaic installation is dimensioned based on the building's reduced needs. Installed too early, it risks being oversized. Certain municipalities also impose constraints: on one of our semi-detached house projects, the municipality did not authorise any external units: the heat pump had to be fully integrated inside.
5. In co-ownership, anticipate decisions
Facade or roof insulation, replacement of joinery: these works are voted on in a general meeting. A clear technical file and comparable offers facilitate the decision.
6. Grants: find out more before signing
The Klimabonus 2026 scheme supports the energy renovation of dwellings located in Luxembourg whose building permit dates back more than 10 years. The grant is only awarded once per construction element, and applications are made to the Guichet unique des aides au logement. Depending on the procedure, an agreement in principle must be requested beforehand. The conditions are changing: check them on guichet.public.lu or with the Klima-Agence, which advises free of charge, before signing your quotes.
In summary
Diagnosis, envelope, ventilation, then equipment: in this sequence, every euro invested works harder. Are you preparing an energy renovation? Book a free 30-minute call.
